A warm evening childhood street

AES · CLASS OF 1994

WE DIDN’T GROW UP ONLINE.

Before the internet. Before social media. Before smartphones.

We grew up outside. We came home when the streetlights came on. And somehow, those were the best years.

01 / THE BEFORE TIMES

BEFORE EVERYTHING
BECAME SMART

✦

NO INTERNET

Yet somehow, we knew where everyone was.

☎

NO MOBILE PHONES

Yet nobody was really unreachable.

◎

NO SOCIAL MEDIA

Yet somehow, everyone knew everyone’s business.

▣

NO STREAMING

If you missed your favourite programme… tough luck.

02 / PRIMETIME

OUR LIVING ROOM

ONE TELEVISION.
ONE REMOTE.
AN ENTIRE FAMILY
FIGHTING OVER WHAT TO WATCH.

There was no Netflix. No YouTube. No watch whenever you want.

If you missed it… you missed it.

03 / AUDIO SIDE A

PRESS PLAY

Before Spotify, there was the mixtape.

We recorded songs from the radio. Rewound tapes with a pencil. And prayed the tape wouldn’t get eaten by the player.

Games left outside on an Indian street

04 / FOUR O’CLOCK

AFTER SCHOOL = OUTSIDE

OUR PARENTS DIDN’T HAVE TO ARRANGE PLAYDATES.
WE JUST WENT DOWNSTAIRS.

The street was our playground. The neighbourhood was our social network.

ONE MORE GAME

We had video games too. But nobody called it gaming.

There was one television. One console. Two controllers. And one person who always said: Let me play one more time!

AND THEN
THERE WAS AES

Somewhere between all those afternoons,
we became us.

09 / THE BIT THAT MATTERS

WE GREW UP.

We moved cities.
Changed careers.
Built families.
Lost touch.
Found each other again.

But somewhere inside…
we’re still those kids from AES.

WELCOME HOME.

10 / NOW

SOMEWHERE ALONG THE WAY,
WE BUILT OURSELVES A LITTLE CORNER OF THE INTERNET.

A place to reconnect. A place to share. A place to remember. A place to create new memories.
